Director of Studies
Katrina King
I am the Director of Studies and main teacher of Study Sulmona. As a child, the only thing I ever wanted to be when I grew up was a teacher. I wanted to make people feel the same way my teachers made me feel - important, intelligent, inspired. Teaching allows me to work with others and help them achieve something they find difficult.
Good relationships are key to a happy life, whether these relationships are with friends, family, colleagues, or a mentor. The connections we make help us grow as human beings. Honesty, open-mindedness and compassion are important values for me and it is through them that I build trust with people and create an environment where everyone can learn. The key to learning is trust - in yourself but also in the teacher.
I believe in the power of positivity and the importance of optimism. Above all, I believe that a good education is key to success and that a knowledge of languages opens doors throughout life. Every child should be given the opportunity to build a brighter future. This is why we have created Study Sulmona.

Leanne King
Living and working in a foreign country allows us to immerse ourselves completely in a different culture. This is a vital part of human experience. I have always been passionate about teaching and helping children lean, whether it's outside with my cousins teaching them the names of different plants and animals or in a school teaching children to read.
Dopo l’università, ho iniziato ad usare la mia passione per aiutare gli altri. Ad ottobre 2011 sono andata in Kenya, dove ho passato tre mesi come volontaria in una scuola situata in una comunità rurale. È stata durante questa esperienza che ho capito che volevo diventare un’insegnante. Nel maggio 2014 ho viaggiato in Italia, in Abruzzo, per andare a trovare mia sorella Katrina (adesso la direttrice di Study Sulmona), dove lavorava come insegnante di inglese. Mi sono innamorata della vita abruzzese e ho deciso che era ora di trasferirmi lì.
On returning to the UK, I immediately signed up for teacher training and gained my Trinity College CertTESOL qualification to teach English. In October 2014 I moved to Abruzzo and I haven’t looked back since.
Gli ultimi cinque anni mi hanno aiutato molto a crescere come insegnante. Continuo a fare corsi per il CPD (Continuous Professional Development) come “Teaching Business English” e “Teaching Young Learners”. Penso che l’aggiornamento professionale sia molto importante; come insegnanti dobbiamo sempre perfezionarci e rimanere a passo con i tempi se vogliamo insegnare agli altri. È soltanto quando ci sforziamo di essere la versione migliore di noi stessi che possiamo aiutare le altre persone a realizzare i loro obiettivi.

Sono cresciuta in un ambiente multiculturale, con una famiglia che ha vissuto e lavorato all’estero e ciò mi ha permesso di familiarizzare sin dalla tenera età con la lingua inglese. Da bambina ho sempre avuto un particolare interesse per le lingue, le culture e tutto ciò che era ‘diverso’ da quello che era il mio mondo; diventare insegnante mi affascinava.
Una volta rientrata in Italia, ho conseguito le mie due lauree specializzandomi in Lingue Straniere perché sapevo che avrei voluto formarmi in questo settore. Ho deciso così, contemporaneamente, di iscrivermi al Percorso formativo per il conseguimento di 24 CFU per poter insegnare.
Sono una persona a cui piace imparare, credo che nella vita non si finisca mai di apprendere e mi relaziono facilmente con persone di tutte le età in quanto ritengo fondamentale l’essere empatici gli uni con gli altri. Sono certa che con tanto impegno e una sana dose di ottimismo si possano realizzare i propri desideri.
Conoscere e studiare una nuova lingua permette di avere un approccio alla quotidianità in modo differente, ma soprattutto nell’avere nuovi occhi quando dobbiamo perseguire gli obiettivi della nostra vita.
